Overview

Overview

Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Bass, Sound Engineering, Recording

Mark Angel is an experienced British guitar and bass player with over 30 years experience of playing electric and acoustic guitars as well as bass in a variety of scenarios and styles. He has recorded on many studio projects and now runs his own studio from his home. Mark now lives in New Zealand.

Mark enjoys singing both lead vocals and harmonies and has a particular interest in writing and producing songs.

Bands

Bands

Mark has played in numerous bands over his career. You can read more about some of them on the Bands page.

Mark is a performer at heart and feels that it is important to give the audience an experience to enjoy. He therefore has a keen interest in the performance aspects of music such as stage presence, lighting, interesting musical changes and similar.

Session Work

2001 - 2010

Session Work

Mark has played electric, acoustic and bass guitars on many session recordings. Since his move from the UK to New Zealand the majority of this work is now carried out over the Internet with Mark using his own studio. The way the timezones work out this means Mark is often able to work on tracks while those in the UK and USA are sleeping which means a quick turnaround.

His studio is equipped with professional quality guitars, amps, effects and microphones and he is able to record at 24 bit 96Khz (and other formats as required). Having an earlier career in IT Mark is fully up to speed on the requirements of digital recording and transmitting files over the Internet.

Recording

1995 - 2010

Recording

Mark's interest in electronics prompted him and his dad building Mark's first guitar amp. Since then Mark has had a keen interest in Sound Engineering which has led him to run Front of House sound for several bands and be involved with the specification and installation of sound systems in some local venues.

Mark has two small to medium PAs that he rents or loans out (either with our without him to operate).

Recording has always been an interest having been in and out of studios all of his guitar playing life so in 1995 Mark began building a studio at home. That studio has changed radically over the last 15 years as technology has changed and now Mark is able to offer 16 track recording either mobile (eg at gigs) or in his home.

Many recording projects have taken place in Mark's studio over the years - some commercial and some just for fun - and Mark himself has recorded many demos and several albums of his own material too.

Guitar Teaching

2000 - 2010

Guitar Teaching

Mark currently is a Specialist Teacher providing guitar and bass tuition for Manawatu Musician Makers in New Zealand. Mark began teaching in 2000 when a friend asked him to teach his son how to play. Things grew from there and soon Mark had a thriving private business teaching guitar and bass.

On relocation to New Zealand Mark joined Manawatu Musisican Makers as a tutor and co-manager where, as well as teaching guitar and bass he helps develop tuition plans, manages and advises the other tutors and works with bands on performance techniques and stage craft.

Here are just a couple of comments that Mark has had regarding his teaching:

  • I can learn at my own pace with music of my choice and am encouraged all the way!
  • One of the best decisions I've made is to learn the guitar. Mark has made it simple!

Sound Bytes

Montages

Here are two montages of soundbytes of marks playing. They are from various eras and bands and some are longer than others. The first montage is mostly rock/blues playing and the second clip shows Mark's softer side. The guitar playing on all the tracks is Mark's playing, and he's also playing bass on a few too. Some are live; some are studio.
If you would like to hear more complete songs please email Mark.
